Kollam Branch of Southern India Regional Council of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India
The Kollam Branch of Southern India Regional Council of ICAI was set up on July 18, 1987 and was inaugurated by the then President of ICAI- CA R Balakrishnan. The branch was headed by CA. R Viswanathan as the first chairman and CA. P Alphonse, as the first secretary.
The members were fruitful in purchasing a land on behalf of the branch in 1993. On 29 December 1993, CA Prasad Vidyadharan the then Chairman of the branch, inked the title deed. And on 31 December 1993, the Vice-President of ICAI, CA. BP Rao laid the foundation stone for the branch building. Under the supervision of CA P Alphonse the Building Committee was successful in constructing an office in land purchased.
On 18 January 1996, the new branch building was inaugurated by K Raveendranathan Nair, a famous businessman and a well-wisher of the Institute. The then managing committee had CA R Sasidharan as the Chairman and CA S Balachandran as the Secretary of the branch.
At present the branch premises is approximately 3000 square feet and have all common facilities. It has a well-maintained library for use of members and students, an air-conditioned conference hall and classrooms. The branch was started with 30 members and at present it has more than 300 members along with a Branch Supervisor and office assistants.
